facts and rumors:
title
It is widely known that Mel Gibson is working on a sequel to "The Passion of the Christ," it is generally referred to as "The Resurrection of the Christ." It was also reported that it could be "The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection."
director
Mel Gibson is confirmed to be the director of the film.
screenplay
Randall Wallace is confirmed to be writing the screenplay.
In July 2023, when it was revealed that the film might be split into two parts Gibson said, "I have two scripts and one of them is very structured and very strong script and kind of more what should expect and the other is like an acid trip. Because you're going into other realms and stuff. I mean you're in hell and you're watching the angels fall. It's like crazy."
In March 2020, Caviezel stated in an interview that the film was in its fifth draft.
Plot
Calling it "a vast theological experience," Gibson said that the film dives into the meaning of the resurrection by juxtaposing the central event of Jesus' rising "with the many things going on around it and in other realms." It will make connections as a way "to enlighten what that means."
He gave the impression that part of the movie would be taking place in Hell and, while talking to interviewer Raymond Arroyo, said that it also may show flashbacks depicting the fall of the Angels.
The film will explore the three-day period starting on Good Friday, the day of Jesus' death, and will look at why the disciples did not recognize Jesus on the way to Emmaus.
Gibson later told Joe Rogan the films would conclude with the death of the last apostle.
